Over 300 NCB employees turned out across the island on Labour Day as change agents to physically perform in the communities in which they serve. In observance of National Labour Day, employees had the opportunity to choose projects under the NCB Project Change; which is a staff volunteerism initiative that seeks to create a positive impact through meaningful change within communities. Equipped with paint brushes, buckets, sand, machete, forks, shovels and garbage bags employees attended to worthwhile projects which impacted our children - i.e. heavily trafficked roadways of communities, the restoration of buildings and the beautification of parks. The three major projects chosen were in line with the national focus and included the painting of sections of the Mandeville Hospital; the signage and beautification of pedestrian crossings, bus stops and round abouts in Morant Bay; and the Play and Learn Park in Ocho Rios. Residents of the respective communities were also invited and participated alongside NCB employees. Together as neighbours they worked hard to effect the desired change within their respective communities. “At NCB we are committed to building a better Jamaica by facilitating life changing experiences for all Jamaicans,” stated Sheree Martin C.E.O NCB Foundation. “Over the years as a financial organization we have gone beyond the boundaries of banking to effect positive changes within the communities in which we serve. Labour Day presented us with yet another opportunity for our employees to build communities while making a difference in the lives of Jamaicans and most importantly our nation’s children,” she continued. The Western, Central and Eastern Projects started at 8:30am with employees, families, friends, residents of the surrounding communities, nurses and medical doctors joining forces to create change as they cleaned, painted, and repaired infrastructures at their respective projects. The Morant Bay Bus Park and Lyssons bus stop received a facelift as employees from the Morant Bay Branch and residents from surrounding communities refurbished, re-roofed the well used bus sheds and painted the pedestrian crossing and sidewalks. The waiting area of the Mandeville Hospital was made new as its walls were given a fresh coat of paint as nurses, doctors and employees of NCB Mandeville Branch worked tirelessly to get it finished. Children will now be able to enjoy the Play and Learn Park in Ocho Rios as employees and residents planted flowers, potted grass, cleaned and painted play equipment used by the children. Lloyd Richardson, Branch Manger, NCB Morant Bay Branch effused, “This has been a wonderful opportunity allowing employees to give back to the communities. At NCB we believe as good corporate citizens we have to make the changes we want to see. That is why as representatives of The National Bank it is in our best interest to continue to serve our communities with commitment, integrity and to be the positive change.”
