NCB Corporate Banking Division Continues NCB’s Outreach to Haiti

The NCB Corporate Banking team happily presents a cheque valued at $75,000 to Ronald Jackson, Executive Director, ODPEM.

Touched by the devastation of Haiti due to the earthquake which occurred in January, many of National Commercial Bank’s business units sought to provide some support to the nation.  NCB also rallied its customers, associates and suppliers to the cause which resulted in an overwhelming outpouring of support. In the immediate days after the earthquake, NCB staff members and customers provided cash and over 200 boxes of food, clothing and personal care items to the cause.

NCB staff members and their associates also gave of their time and energy to pack the bags and boxes and arrange distribution of the goods.   Many of the volunteers included young people who were awarded scholarships to tertiary institutions by the N.C.B. Foundation.

The support was channeled to the people of Haiti through charitable organizations including Food for the Poor, the United Way Disaster Fund and the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM).

The desire to help was so overwhelming that some of NCB’s divisions sacrificed their funds budgeted for their staff events.  This was in addition to the many employees who provided both financial and tangible support.

Last month, yet another NCB division pledged support; the Corporate Banking Division donated over $75,000 to reconstruction and humanitarian efforts in Haiti.

“We realized that while the immediate needs may have been taken care of, the rebuilding of Haiti would now need to be a focus and we wanted to help in this regard.  We also wanted to bring attention to the fact that the need to continue to support the nation is still urgent” said Miss Maxia Fairweather who made the handover to ODPEM on behalf of NCB’s Corporate Banking Division.
